CELIAC DISEASE and ACCUTANE

Postby sickly » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:01 pm

How many of you Accutane victims have celiac disease or gluten intolerance? The scientific journal "Nature" had an article by researchers from the University of Chicago's Digestive Disease Research Core Center that found that Vitamin A and retinoic acid, byproducts fo Accutane and Retin-A, can cause inflammatory response in people with high levels of interleukin-15 = digestive problems eating foods with gluten (wheat, rye and barley). If it is celiac disease, the gluten is toxic and destroys the microvilli required to absorb nutrients from food thus can lead to iron deficiencies, low bone density and many other vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Does Accutane cause celiac? see the other posts on this forum. One thing can lead to another. There were some 16+ million people worldwide that used some form of Accutane and all of a sudden there are millions of people who don't even know they have celiac or gluten intolerance....is there a connection or a cure? The postings show that they can block the interleukin-15 in mice which allows mice to tolerate gluten from the vitamin A or retinoic damage. Is the lack of nutrient absorption making us sick and open to a whole host of illnesses and diseases? So many questions but no answers.

I have gluten intolerance and a myriad of other food intolerances that together limit me to low-fat meat and white rice.
